Re: Javascript DOM Problem creating elements and appeding them insertBefore

Pamela,

What you are looking for then is, "JavaScript Cookies".  You use the browsers cookies to store your data between pages.

JavaScript Cookies are discussed here:
http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_cookies.asp

So, your web browser calls up the first page.  The user fills in the form.  They press submit and the web browser goes to the next page.  The pages are stored on the local hard drive vs a web server.  That's fine.

The first javascript captures the data from the form before the form is submitted.  Again, JQuery can help store the information in cookies.

Download the JQuery plugin for cookies: (several links provided for review)
http://www.jquery4u.com/data-manipulation/jquery-set-delete-cookies/
http://plugins.jquery.com/cookie/
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1458724/how-to-set-unset-cookie-with-jquery

ex ... $.cookie ("[cookie name]", "[cookie value]" );

<html>
<body>
<form>
<input type="text" id="userid" value="">
<input type="submit" id="submit" value="submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>

<script src="jquery.js" type="javascript"></script>
<script src="jquery.cookie.js" type="javascript"></script>

<script>
$.ready (function () { onLoad (); });

onLoad : function ()
{
    $("#userid").val( $.cookie("userid") );
    $("#submit").click (onSubmit);
};

onSubmit : function ()
{
  $.cookie ("userid", $("#userid").val() );
    window.location = "next.html";
};
</script>

The articles above provide examples to remove the cookies, as well as create paths to cookies and store them in domains.

Granted I only provided the script for one page, hopeuflly this is enough to understand the idea to implement it on other pages of your site.

Let me know if this helps,

Mike,

Hi Mike:

No its not a scroll situation its a button navigation situation
For example:  Lets say I have a page with button navigation's  you have to click on certain button
to get to a particular form. So CC form is where I type the information and my JavaScript file captures the information using the DOM puts it in a certain place  The page has a certain section on the page it will retrun to once you hit the registration button on any form.  So when I want to see my information that I captured  on the
page I have to go back to that navigation button and my information has been wiped out because of were the
page return to.

Remember this is a static page no server involved, this is my problem information is not stored any where.
When I take out the return it will stay which makes sense to me but this is not the way the client requirements
state written in stone.

Hope this explains it better.
Thanks in advance

Hello:
I,m trying to write some code to create a a div with a class and and id. I believe I have that part correct, I then create a <p> element, I then create a text node to go inside the <p> tag the issue is trying to append everything. I need to work dynamically

This is what I'm trying to do
var element = document.getElementsByClassName("creditCardSummary");

var parent= element.parentNode;

//create div

var newDiv = document.createElement("div");
newDiv.id "newcc";
newDiv.className = "creditCardSummaryWrapper";

//Create a paragraph tag
var para = document.createElement("p");
alert("here")
var node=document.createTextNode("CardNumber:cshadow Experation:monthyear");

//The monthyear and cshadow are variables that hold information I
//captured from a form successfully.

para.appendChild(node);

I can't figure out out how to append all this so div ,<p >and text  to show up.

parent.insertAfter(element, para); //I know something is missing.

Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
