the "#" designates an id, not a class. It's the "."-prefix that
designates a class in the html code and this selects it for the style
rules within the brackets.
So as selector you'd use ".menu" or "#nav" in this case.

#nav {
float: right;
text-align: right;
background-color: #EFF9FC;
}

I would recommend you get a book on CSS design. For me it was Andy
Clarke's "Transcending CSS" from 2006 that turned my life around. His
later "Hardboiled Web Design" is also good, but as good very
designeroriented intro I recommend the first title. This books teach a
very useful mindset and a lot of hard won knowledge.

[Design with CSS 3738] Re: Why div align failed with Safari 5.05 for Windows

buyz,

The following div of nav is not right-aligned. Also, my previous code
works as expected for Firefox 12 (that is, the div is right-aligned
but not for Safari). And also, for the scripting language I'm using
for the app, # is a special character, it is escaped via prefixing
another one to it, I tried both ##menu and #menu to no avail (for div
alignment), hmm, not sure what's going on. Thanks.

Re: [Design with CSS 3733] ¿ specyfic version for mobiles or responsive design ?

I must admit I don't consider the audience surfing on dumb-phones when I build mobile websites, and I assume 320 doesn't either. I test my mobile designs on as many real life devices I can find, including test handsets in retailers displays, but I do limit my audience to iOS, android, BlackBerry OS and Windows Phone users.

That's just a part of a whole strategy.

I'd say it's the old "content out" approach that yields the best
starting point. Already there are choices whether the same content
should be available for the mobile audience as the full screen users
and if you split up your audience even finer, in different sizes and
capabilities of "smart phones" and "simple cellular phones" you have
even more to decide already on the content level.
Usually, it pays off to think mobile first for content. As in "simple
cellular phones". Then build from there.

When you have decided the content matters, you probably have to decide
if the presentation are going to be different for different device
user groups. If different content and/or different presentation is
going to be in use you'll have to investigate how you are going to
target the devices, with different sites altogether and/or media
queries and similar techniques.

So in a nutshell, let the content and expected users decide. To not
develop for mobile is lazy and very old school IMHO. But sometimes
there's just not enough money to do it the whole way. If not it's good
if you and the customer knows what the trade-off is.

http://stuffandnonsense.co.uk/projects/320andup/  Is a good boilerplate to start a project that'll look splendid on mobiles. It all depends on your priorities and the client's needs though.

[Design with CSS 3729] CSS3PIE "Access is denied" problem, please help

0 comments
Hi,

I'm working on my company site, mainly on impoving CSS. I would like
to eliminate a lot of little images that create rounded corners,
shadows and so on. CSS§ id a perfect choice, but still lot of our
users use IE7 and IE8 so I need to prepare this site for them too.

I found a lot of good opinions about CSS3PIE, do I downloaded it and
tried to use, but my IE doesn't want to cooperate :). It says: Access
is denied to: PIE.htc Line: 0 Char: 0 Code: 0. I tried to put files to
one folder and to differents folders, check this on the server and
local... I have always the same information...

Please help to solve this problem.

it's because the H1 element has margin-top, set margin-top to 0px and
it will be fine

[Design with CSS 3721] incomprehensible gap above and below DIV

0 comments
This page has a gap I don't understand. http://roxburyyouthworks.org/index_052112.html

In the DIV with the dark grey background, called #homemovie, there is
a space at the top of the div where the color is incorrect. It should
be #666, but instead it's lighter. There is no padding nor margin in
the CSS above or below, so why is this happening?

NO matter how I experiment, the space remains. Can anyone see where my
error is?

Thanks,
Nicky

[SOLVED] it was an issue with the Graphic card resolution and current
screen ( cannot go over 1024x768 , so margins are small...)

[Design with CSS 3719] body width issue in all Windows browsers ...

( see http://www.webdufour.com )

displaying fine on any Mac browser ( Safari, Ff, Chrome and Opera )
the div.main-content has a calculated layout of 1361px
the nested div.wrapper has a fixed width of 961px with margin: 0
auto

but displaying this URL on a Windows 7 based computer, then the
div.main-content has a width of 961px ( so no margins...)
using Firebug, I added a body fixed with of 1360px , just for
testing , then the margin appears

is it an issue with the DOCTYPE ??

thanks for your feedback

Re: [Design with CSS 3717] Why am I getting all these CSS Error messages.

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

VS is checking your Style sheet based on CSS 2.1 (default) and you used higher properties.
Just forget about it...

2012/4/25 stapes <steve.staple@gmail.com>
I am using Visual Studio to build an application using ASP.NET and VB.

Suddenly, it is displaying loads of errors on the CSS page.

Everything it is flagging is actually valid. I have checked:

'background-clip' is not a known CSS property name.

Re: jquery clone and live

0 comments
The .live is used for dynamic DOM elements that are added after the initial load of the page.  However, with jQuery 1.7 (I believe that's the latest), you can do as so:

$('.current_editor .edit').on({
     'click': function () {
           //do stuff here;
     }
});

See if that takes away you having to double click it.  Also, if you can provide a link, someone might be able drill down to the real issue if this doesn't solve it.

Is it better to use live or just call a function with
onclick="my_function('id')" ?

And how about the live thingy? Shouldn't it scan the dom for any
selector?

It would be helpful if someone could give me an answer.

Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately this site requires me to register + log in. How do you

Light Box Preview

0 comments
Is there a way to mimic light box to preview html or text.

The 'lightbox' - window.open techniques open a url.

The alternate method is to dynamically insert the html into a div, which does not work as well nor look as impressive. I am doing this with CKEdit/dialog.

A 'lightbox' superimposed over the existing page where that page is darkened would be desired.

Thanks

To see the most advantages from your menu create a suckerfish (pure CSS) menu. Very flexible yet als very friendly with search engines...
